Meet the Maker: Dainty Bakes

I worked with the wonderful Megan from Dainty Bakes on our October Purple Styled Shoot, and loved working with her so much that we are working together very soon in 2019! Here you can learn a little more about her, her wonderful business and her delectable cakes!

Hello, I’m Megan of Dainty Bakes.

I design and create a range of cakes, all of which are lovingly handmade to order in my Somerset home using natural ingredients and delicious flavours.

My style is simple and modest, and typically features natural decorations such as fresh and dried fruit or flowers, fresh herbs, or nuts. The quality and provenance of my ingredients is very important to me. I therefore source my milk and butter from a nearby dairy farm, use Somerset free-range eggs, and purchase my dry ingredients from a local, independent packaging-free grocery store.

A few months ago, I was approached by the wonderful Lauren Alexander Weddings to work on an autumnal-themed styled wedding shoot…my very first! The shoot was held at The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House, a beautiful rural venue in south-east Somerset; the perfect setting for a rustic and natural wedding.

In line with Lauren’s brief, I chose a simple and rustic semi-naked tiered cake design. This was decorated with beautiful fresh flowers, provided by Purple Violets Floristry, which tied in wonderfully with the flower arrangements throughout. Loves Lane Vintage Hire provided a gorgeous antique silver cake stand; complementing the style of my cake perfectly.

The wedding cake was accompanied with my vanilla bean mini cakes as well as a gluten-free cupcake alternative. These were decorated with fresh, seasonal blackberries and rosemary sprigs from my garden. Dot the I Calligraphy provided an elegant deep purple and gold sign for the gluten-free cakes to tie in with the rest of her stunning wedding stationery.

I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with some extremely skilled wedding suppliers who love what they do. Lauren was such a pleasure to work with, and her talent and passion for creating stylish, eco-friendly weddings is truly inspiring. I now can’t wait until my next shoot!

I can cater for birthdays, christenings, hen parties, weddings or any special occasion!
